Moroccan Wedding Blankets

I love the tradition behind Moroccan wedding blankets.  The bride-to-be's mother typically begins weaving the blanket when the girl is young, as part of her dowry.  They are woven of undyed wool and cotton, and are often decorated with bands of colorful talismanic symbols and sequins.  These decorative items are said to protect the couple from evil and also to reflect the light from the sun and nighttime fires.
It's a vanishing art form, and these blankets are getting difficult to find, but if you're interested in purchasing one, visit Beyond Marrakesh. All photos below are a small sampling from their website. Aren't they extraordinary?

books as handbags!

I squealed with glee (yes, really) when I saw these amazing handbags.  Made by the talented Karen at Novel Creations on Etsy, these are actual books upcycled into fantastic bags.  They were going to be thrown away at the used bookstore where she works, so this clever girl made something wonderful with them.  Below are some of my favorites.

purses & clutches ~ 1madwoman

Just love these gorgeous handmade purses from 1madwoman on Etsy.  I have a huge "Mary Poppins" bag that I carry around all winter (good to stash office shoes, hats & mittens), but I like to get something cute (and smaller!) for spring and summer.

Pacifica ~ Tibetan Mountain Temple

Had to pass on this great value to all of you!  Most of you have probably already heard of Pacifica, a wonderful line of scented products.  Tibetan Mountain Temple is one of my favorites, and it's on sale.  You get the spray perfume, solid perfume, and pillar candle for just $31.80. Here's the website's description:

This grounded, alluring fragrance was one of my first and most ethereal blends. Vetiver, with a smokey, resinous scent, is reminiscent of the fragrant smoke of incense burnt throughout the temples and sacred spaces in Asia. Patchouli is subtle, but deep. Ginger and orange zest lighten the burning intensity of the blend. This is an homage to the Tibetan people and their struggle and a thank you to the Dalai Lama for all that he has done for our world.

Just fell in love with these handmade house shoes from the talented Daria at LaLa! Shoes on Etsy.  Made from fine materials like linen and wool felt, she custom makes each pair according to your measurements for a perfect fit.  And the baby shoes!  I know what I'm buying for my grandchildren (when they come...).   :)
